An average American voter is woefully ignorant of history and historical facts.
One historical fact is particularly relevant for our country in this election season.
Adolf Hitler had tried a violent coup in Germany, known as the Beer Hall Putsch in Munich, which failed.
He was sentenced to prison for five years but released after eight months only. He used his prison time to write a book “Mein Kamp” in which he broadly outlined his white supremacist theories and other ideas and policies.
Years later, he succeeded in a constitutional coup in which he got elected and proceeded to eliminate all his perceived political opponents and became a brutal dictator. He essentially followed his ideas contained and promoted in his book and the result was an absolute disaster for Germany and rest of the world.
Donald Trump also tried a violent coup on Jan. 6, 2021 which came dangerously close to succeeding. Since then, in all his speeches, press conferences and rallies, he has outlined how he will rule our country if given another chance.
He is now attempting a constitutional coup to get reinstated and has made no secret of how he will treat his political opponents.
Will we learn from history?
