In-person, spoken-language interpreters are now available to help disaster workers communicate with survivors of the Aug. 8 wildfires, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said Tuesday.
The service for those with limited or no English-speaking abilities can be requested by any disaster assistance team member working with survivors, including FEMA specialists, case managers, home inspectors, government agencies and nonprofits.
Language interpretation is available in Chuukese, Hawaiian, Ilokano, Japanese, Korean, Marshallese, Pohnpeian, Samoan, Spanish, Thai, Tagalog, Tongan and Vietnamese.
Interpreters can be arranged at the Disaster Recovery Center at the Lahaina Civic Center Gym at 1840 Honoapiilani Highway.
