Crews put out a fire that burned 1 acre of heavy brush at Kanaha Beach Park on Friday afternoon, according to the Maui Fire Department.
Emergency responders received the call at 12:55 p.m. about the fire near the last entrance of the beach park in Kahului. Crews arrived on scene to find a working brush fire with difficult access in heavy brush, the Fire Department said.
They were able to contain the fire 100 percent at about 2:30 p.m. and remained on scene to conduct mop-up operations.
Engine 1 from Wailuku, Engine 10 and Tanker 10 from Kahului and the department’s Air One helicopter responded to the fire. State crash rescue personnel also assisted.
The cause of the fire is unknown, the Fire Department said.
Conditions on Friday afternoon included gusty trade winds of more than 25 mph, MFD reported.
